What You Need to Make Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding

For the Bread Pudding

  • 6-7 slices day-old bread, torn into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 23 cup raisins
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For The Pecan Praline Sauce

  • 1/2 cup (or 1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

How to Make Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F (175 C). Lightly grease an 8 inch square baking pan with butter (or oil), then add in the bread pieces. Drizzle melted butter over the bread and mix in the raisins.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, half-and-half, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour over the bread mixture (you may need to use a fork to push the mixture down so the bread is covered in the liquid).
  3. Bake for 40-45 minutes. The top of the bread pudding should spring back when you tap it lightly.
  4. Remove the bread pudding from the oven, then let cool for 5 minutes. When ready to eat spoon a portion of the bread pudding into a bowl, then drizzle with warm pecan praline sauce (recipe below). Add a scoop of ice cream on top and a generous dollop of whipped cream on the side, just like the original Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding. ENJOY!

Make The Praline Sauce

  1. In a heavy saucepan, add the unsalted butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  2. Mix in the chopped pecans and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the pecan praline sauce thickens. Remove from heat, then pour over the bread pudding.
