What is Shrimp Alfredo?
Shrimp Alfredo is an Italian-inspired dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or even a side dish.
It’s easy to make and doesn’t require too many ingredients – just pasta, butter, garlic, cream sauce, and shrimp.
But don’t be fooled: while shrimp alfredo uses just simple ingredients, it boasts deliciously complex flavors! And when your pair the meal with good wine? Even better!
What Wine Goes With Seafood?
It is best for you to choose a wine that best matches your dish, but in general white wines go best with seafood dishes and reds go best with beef dishes. With the exception of Champagne, which works well with almost anything, most wines are better when served at room temperature rather than chilled or warm.
There are many different types of seafood so it’s important for you to do some research on what type of sauce your meal has before choosing a wine because it can change your options drastically.
For example, if you’re eating lobster, then an off-dry Riesling would be perfect. But if you’re eating shrimp, then Sauvignon Blanc would be best.
What Wine Goes Best with Alfredo Sauce?
There are many wines that go best with alfredo sauces, including white wines like Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc or red wines like Gamay and Merlot.
The best bet is to choose a wine that best matches the underlying flavors of your alfredo sauce.
4 Best Wines to Pair with Shrimp Alfredo
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about pairing wine with shrimp alfredo is the classic white wine. But what if you want something a little different?
Here are some of our favorite wines to pair with Shrimp Alfredo:
- Pinot Grigio: This Italian grape is light and refreshing, perfect for spring or summer! Pinot Grigio can be paired with pasta dishes like shrimp alfredo because it has just enough acidity and fruitiness to cut through the richness of this dish.
- Chardonnay: Chardonnay’s buttery notes will perfectly complement your seafood dish. Its sweet flavors balance out the salty taste of Parmesan cheese in this recipe, making it the right choice for those who love that cheesy kick in their alfredo.
- Sauvignon Blanc: As we mentioned earlier, Sauvignon Blanc is best paired with seafood dishes because of its crisp flavors and bright acidity. Its zestiness enhances the natural flavor of your shrimp and makes it taste even fresher than before! It’s the best choice for those who love the taste of garlic.
- Merlot: This round and fruity wine is often paired with dishes that have a tomato base, but it pairs with rich sauces like alfredo sauce. Its berry flavor will perfectly compliment the flavors of your shrimp. The best part is that this affordable red wine can be found at any local grocery store!

Remember, not all wines are created equal. There are different flavors and complexities that pair nicely with one dish that might not pair with another dish. Also, your tastes will almost certainly vary from another person, so choose something you will like.
Easy Shrimp Alfredo Recipe
This Shrimp Alfredo is a quick and easy meal that’s both fresh and flavorful, with a rich homemade alfredo sauce. It only includes ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry and takes less than 20 minutes to prepare!
Ingredients
For the Alfredo Sauce
- 1/2 cup butter, cubed
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups freshly shredded Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 14-16 oz fettuccine or spaghetti noodles
For the Shrimp
- 1.5 pounds large shrimp, thawed and peeled
- 1 Tablespoon oil or butter
- Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
How to Make Easy Shrimp Alfredo
- In a large pot, cook the pasta until al dente or according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add cubed butter and let it melt. Add garlic and stir until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Pour in the heavy cream and whisk to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow to cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often.
- Reduce heat and mix in the parmesan cheese until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add in the cooked pasta and toss it in the sauce to coat.
- Meanwhile, season the shrimp with salt and pepper. In a large pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Add in the shrimp and cook until pink, about 3 minutes.
- Divide the cooked alfredo pasta into 4 bowls, then top with shrimp. Garnish with fresh parsley, then eat immediately. ENJOY!
Notes:
Parmesan Cheese: Use freshly grated parmesan instead of pre-shredded Parmesan to get the most out of it. It won’t melt as cleanly or taste as good as freshly grated!
Recipe Tweaks:
- Lighter Alfredo Sauce: You can substitute milk or half-and-half for the cream; the sauce will not be as smooth, but you can thicken it with a cornstarch slurry.
- Make a Combination Alfredo: Add in some grilled chicken for a great combo Alfredo dish.
- One Pan Alfredo: Add some steamed broccoli right before serving to make an incredible one-pot dinner.
- Cajun Shrimp Alfredo (one of our favorites): Season the shrimp with cajun seasoning before cooking. The cajun seasoning will come and compliment the creaminess of the sauce.

Shrimp Alfredo is a rich, creamy, and savory dish that can be used as any course of the meal.
