Tips to Make the BEST Applebee’s Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp Copycat
- If you are using chicken breasts that are pretty large or thick, slice each one in half lengthwise to create thinner fillets. Not only will this save you time having to pound them, it also makes them more flavorful because there is more seasoning to meat ratio!
- Don’t be afraid to really rub in the cajun seasoning!
- If you want to cut down prep time even further, buy pre-made cajun seasoning.
- When cooking your shrimp, do not over-crowd the pan! You want the shrimp to cook quickly and char on the outside without making them rubbery (as overcooking tends to do).
Can You Freeze the Chicken & Shrimp Leftovers?
Sure you can! Just double wrap whatever is left of your Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp with plastic wrap (make sure it’s securely sealed). Place it in a freezer bag and freeze for up to 2-3 months.
How to Make Applebee’s Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp
Make the Cajun Seasoning:
- In a large shallow bowl, combine all the cajun seasoning ingredients.
- Use tongs to toss the chicken and shrimp in the cajun seasoning, then drizzle them with 1 tablespoon of oil. Rub the remainder of the cajun seasoning evenly.
- Use immediately or cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the fridge for up to 24 hours (the longer you let it marinate, the more flavorful it will be!)
Make Applebee’s Bourbon Street Chicken:
- In a large nonstick skillet or pan, heat 1 tablespoon oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, sear the chicken until golden brown (about 5-8 minutes) or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F using a meat thermometer.
- Remove the bourbon street chicken from the pan and set aside on a plate.
Make Applebee’s Bourbon Street Shrimp:
- In the same nonstick skillet or pan, heat 1 tablespoon oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes per side, or until charred and cooked through.
- Remove the bourbon street shrimp from the pan and set aside on a plate.
Make the Garlic Butter Sauce
- Using the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Melt the remaining butter in the pan and sauté the garlic for 30-45 seconds, or until fragrant. Make sure to scrape any browned bits from the pan to avoid burning. Add in the chicken broth and let the mixture reduce for about 3 minutes, or until the mixture reaches a “sauce” consistency.
- Turn off the heat, then drizzle the sauce over the chicken and shrimp.
- Sprinkled with chopped parsley and a wedge of lemon. To make this the ultimate Applebee’s Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp copycat recipe, serve with a side of sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and garlic mashed potatoes. ENJOY!

Spicy, but very flavorful! Well definitely make again. I didn’t make the mashed potatoes since I’m currently doing low carb.

I tried it! It came out very delicious. I added sautéed mushrooms and roasted potatoes and salad.
I’m a big fan of Applebees Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp. Tonight my wife and decided to make this recipe at home. I’d give it 100 stars. It was so delicious. We both took our first bite at the same time and looked at each other and grinned. It was so good! Going to be making it a lot I think. Everyone must try this.
Hi Terry! Thank you so much for the kind review. I’m so glad you both loved it!
It was delicious. Thank you so much for the recipe. We will be having it often.
I made this tonight and it was a hit! Thank you, the only thing I change is to lessen the cayenne pepper, chili powder, and smoked paprika, my family is not so much into spicy food. Followed the instructions and the chicken and shrimp came out perfect.
Sheila, your modifications sound perfect! I’m glad you enjoyed this recipe just as much as we do!

Great recipe! The parents ate it last night for our Monday Night family meal and they kept saying how delicious it was. My husband ate all the leftovers for lunch today too and said it still tasted good.
I was just at Applebee’s the other day and had the Bourbon Street Chicken for the first time. I loved it! So I decided to try making my own and your recipe came up on Google so I made it last night. It was so good and much cheaper to make too. I’ll be making this recipe again.
