If you’ve read my past reviews, you already know that I’m a huge fan of food subscription boxes. Specifically, I love getting them because they are just so convenient!

This month, my husband and I tried the new meat subscription box called Good Chop.

We got a huge box full of different cuts of meats to try – and now that we’ve eaten all the meat we ordered, it’s time for our honest review!

Good Chop Quality Review

Overall, I was very pleased with all the meats I got in my box, but my 2 favorites are the grass-fed filet mignon and wild-caught pacific cod!

The grass-fed filet mignon pack had 2 servings (each one pre-portioned and vacuum-sealed). My husband and I had it for an at-home date night. My husband had it cooked to medium doneness and I had mine to medium-well. It was tender and overall delicious!

(I recommend the steak cuts paired with a garlic butter sauce – a match made in heaven!)

The cod fillets were incredibly fresh. I would know because I grew up fairly close to the sea when I was in Indonesia, so I had daily-caught seafood often – seafood freshness is very important to me.

Good Chop delivered on the freshness of the cod and it absolutely makes me want to try more of Good Chop’s seafood options.

Now the “meh” cuts really were only the pork chop for me. It was good, but it wasn’t anything too different from what I could source locally here in Kansas. I felt that I could get similar quality cuts of the pork chop from a local butcher near me, and for a bit less cost too.

But.. I do also acknowledge that Kansas is home to a lot of hog farmers, so if you live in the city, the Good Chop pork chop will still taste much better than a Kroger pork chop cut. Much more flavorful, in my opinion – just like our local butcher does it!

Good Chop Delivery Review

Good Chop’s delivery was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with any subscription boxes (and I’ve ordered a lot!)

After order, my box was quickly shipped and it was delivered within a few short days.

Nothing went wrong with the delivery and I didn’t need to contact customer service because of any issues.

10 out of 10 delivery experience!

Good Chop Packaging Review

My box came looking like it just came out of the Good Chop packing center. It was in perfect condition, no dents and bruises at all! I’ve definitely received some battered-up boxes with other services before, so bonus points for this.

When I opened my Good Chop box, I was happy to see it was well insulated. The box was still cold to the touch, but not soggy.

When I lifted up the insulated liner, there was a TON of dry ice. I’m not kidding, there were 3-4 huge bags filled with dry ice. And while I wasn’t sure this was necessary, I’d rather have too much dry ice than thawed-out meat. My meats were all still very frozen when they arrived. Woohoo!

How Much Does Good Chop Cost?

At the time of this Good Chop review, the company currently offers 2 plans:

One thing to keep in mind is one “item” typically includes more than 1 pre-portioned cut, so you’re actually getting way more meat than the number of “items” indicate.

For example, the filet mignon I love comes in packs of 2 (6oz) cuts, but it counts as 1 “item”.

Personally, I find the extra cost is worth it to get the large box (vs their medium plan). There’s a lot of meat and it’s a great deal per serving, even if you don’t have large families.

I like to get the large box and put the extra meat in my deep freezer for future meals.

Some of their most popular cuts include the flat iron steak, chicken breasts, ranch steaks, bavette steaks, New York strip steaks, beef ribeye steaks, stew beef, and more.

How Does Good Chop Compare with Other Meat Delivery Service?

I’d say Good Chop is very comparable to some of my favorite meat delivery services, like ButcherBox, Crowd Cow, and Thrive Market’s Meat & Seafood Program.

While Good Chop’s beef isn’t exclusively grass-fed, they do offer both 100% grass-fed beef as well as grass-fed grain-finished USDA graded Angus beef (choice, prime). And the quality of those cuts competes very well with the other big-name meat subscription boxes.

Plus, Good Chop offers 100% satisfaction guarantee!

If you pair this guarantee with Good Chop’s current limited-time offer of $100 off your next 3 boxes HERE, that’s quite a steal of quality meats!

Final Verdict: Is Good Chop Worth It?

In my opinion, Good Chop is a great option for you if:

But.. with the relatively higher price tag (compared to grocery store meat prices), Good Chop may not be for everyone, specifically if you value low price over quality and sustainability.

Personally, I loved my experience with Good Chop (especially with their wild-caught pacific cod!), but let me know: do YOU think Good Chop is worth it?
